Thanks t o your warnings(!) I always ground out all caps until I hear them emptying their volts with a satisfying pop. I'm glad that you survived so you could start this fantastic channel!
People The Reason why we use Analog scopes even today is because A DMM Or a Digi Scope can lead you up the garden path when you want to go down it... Even today 2024 When I Test Longitudinals copper we Use analog Low Ohm ... You can end up in a world of Hurt if you are Not Careful. Spot On Mr C as Always ..... Legend Ham Operator ..
Wo you found a schematic for it sweet.
I wish I could get all the knowledge of your brain downloaded into mine
So your lab is at your house? What does your neighbors think/say about you in your bucket truck?
LOL, your workshop looks like the inside of a retro space shuttle!
Rusty skin !?

You lost me at 27:11, "you know of course using common sense". No one has ever accused me of that. Enjoy your videos. I love old radios and watching them be repaired. Some of these were new when I was very young.
155V P-P is quite impressive, especially if that can still be true up to the specified 100KHz. That is 55V RMS. That is almost 35 dBV. That is almost 48 dBm50. That is 37 dBm600.
Mine did the same thing after 2 months use - STAY AWAY - Junk Product
HELMET!
23:38 "Have to have to rewire this, so I will gently remove this." takes a pair of wire cutters. 😊
i love your work lab
thats so neat how gifted you are with electronics.
I need my fix //on new video
you using bepolar power for this probe?
That's over 30,000$ in today's money.
That thing looks expensive.
I use galvanized electric fence wire. Cheap and lasts many years.
Good job
No job too small Awesome 👍
The Wizard at work, What a Genius,oh my goodness if you could sell your DNA your worth millions.....
brilliant you should go and work for Boeing with all your skills save there company there in a right state cant get the staff
When companies get that big, they begin to loose touch with what got them there. Open minds and out of the box thinking is how all these places got going. Maybe when they realize this, and stop playing paper games, they will "come back."
It's rather interesting that the radio is an active electrical nightmare when plugged in and not switched on. You make a great point about using isolation transformers on 120V AC radios, because if you were to probe the live chassis with the negative probe, you're basically shorting the powerlines because the scope shorts the negative of the probe to the earth prong of the power plug through the scope as the radio is basically riding the live wire, much similar to what a bridge rectifier circuit does.
They might as well have nicknamed the AA4 radio the 'suicide radio' or the 'shockomatic deluxe'. That thing is just a pure electric deathtrap. Aesthetically it looks nice, however in a health and safety sense, it's basically gone out the window on that.
super!!! so super!
Top man what a Gift from the Lord
If you have a friend who works on aircraft, there's some .032 safety wire that's used to safetying aircraft components. I used it for a solar dryer (clothes line), and its lasted about 30 years. There's more than one type of wire. Some don't rust, and some will look tarnished, but hold up fine. I enjoy watching your content working on the old radios. I'm not much of an electronic guy, but it's interesting to see what do. Tommy
Oops, I hit the send before I finished my reply. I wanted to say: from Costco, but I'm not that happy with it. I think my Teac overheated and took out something in the channels. The subwoffer still works.
Where was your spotter? Asking for a friend.
So the average person doesn't have a big truck with a cherry picker on it. Where did that thing come from? Is that what you do for a living?
Any recommendations on condensor microphones close to cell towers besides moving away ? 😂
Mr. Carlson, I need to switch 2,000 volts at 60 times a second. I was thinking of using a triggered spark gap however I do not have the money for one of those. I was thinking of an RCA 6012 Thyratron. How would I wire one of those up to a signal generator to perform this. I thank you so much for this information.
Thanks for the great video! I have some questions about the Shorts sensitivity adjustment and the Grid Emissions adjustment. So, when I use an 1 meg ohm resistor to adjust the shorts and a 20 meg ohm to adjust grid emissions, how many Watts should the 1 meg ohm be and how many Watts should the 20 meg ohm be? Thanks.
Ha ha! How young do you look? That aside, nice job!
Love the point to point spaghetti wiring. Very interesting. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Mr. Carlson, Fair Radio Sales is closing I hear. If you live close you should go pick up some goodies 😂😂.
One has to wonder, where has peoples drive gone?
If there was a possibility of there being a charge, how would you have handled that?
I’m just wondering if it is possible to discharge the capacitors before doing anything or is that not a possibility
can we get a video of a 3cx3000 build :)
I wonder if dust is a topic regarding having the equipment on shelves? Thinking of getting sturdy metal cabinets for my stuff vs shelves.... any suggestions? There shouldn't be much dust in a workshop, theoretically....
Working in the irrigation industry, I have used a TDR to locate bad splices, buried decoders/valves boxes and open/cut wires. I have found that in a 2-wire system the VoP can change from 73 on a straight piece of wire laying on the ground to 70 on a piece that is coiled on a spool to 57 when it is buried in the ground which all of my situations are. I have to make the VoP change in my TDR to get the proper measurement of the amount of wire left on a spool. After watching your video I’m surprised that it would change that much. I had very limited knowledge of how and why a TDR worked but now I am more understanding of the tool that makes my life of diagnosing problems in a large scale irrigation system work.
To fast. Was that a Oracle turntable. If so, wow don't see them anywhere. I have year 1 or 2 Oracle A C. Have to wait and see.
How about Polyester caps if larger values aren't available in Polypropylene?
Looks Latin to me
Is there a reason you’re not using insulated copper wire?
Naturally time is at a premium. The north of England view is make do and mend. Thank you Mr C. Steve Bulgaria.
Hi Mr C. Would you remove the paint completely from the case? That paint job looks like a heavy hammer effect. Could you replicate that? No need to answer. I know you are busy. Thanks form Steve in Bulgaria.
Hi Steve. We have a paint here that reproduces the hammertone effect, its a spraypaint right off the shelf, it looks pretty good. This is the product: www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/universal/universal-hammered-spray-paint
My wire antenna was a dipole made with Copper Weld wire, with 450 ohm feeders. It had been up for many years and finally, this year, the wire rusted out at the feed point, which is up on my tower, about 18m high. Now, I am doing a lot of thinking about my climb up to it!
I wish you were my neighbor, because I could learn so much more from you than JUST simply by watching your UA-cam videos, (as good as those are!), because I would be regularly visiting and talking with you, and wanting to help you out with your projects and videos! It would be great fun for me, being a major electronics nerd myself!
who makes those crimping pliers? I'm Done with cheap sets. I just built a 250 amp dc supply for a amature amplifer and used that #4 on the input...it is thicccc.
Irwin (Vice Grip) makes them.
